Key City Old Timers Hockey League
The KCOHL is Cranbrook’s recreational hockey league for players 35+. We keep the game fun, competitive, and community-driven—where sportsmanship, camaraderie, and love of the game matter as much as the score.
Spots in the league are limited and filled first come, first served.
The league
Fun, competitive, community-driven
Hockey is a sport for life. The league gives players a place to stay on the ice, enjoy great competition and build lasting friendships.
Sportsmanship
Competitive yet respectful. The game stays hard-fought because everyone agrees to play it fair.
Camaraderie
Meet new people, burn off some calories, and replace them with a beverage afterwards. The room matters as much as the rink.
Love of the game
Players 35 and up who never stopped. We may have lost a step, but never the love for hockey.
How it works
Regular season at a glance
One season, ten teams, and a draft that gives nobody special treatment.
Eligibility
Players 35 and older are welcome to register.
Season length
End of September through the end of Spring Break in March.
Game schedule
Sundays starting at 2:45, with two to three Monday night games spread through the season.
Teams
Ten teams, each with about fifteen players, goalies included.
Drafting
No player protection. The draft runs by age bracket, 35 to 44 and 45 plus, and by position.
Fees & payment
Fees vary year to year with ice rental and municipal costs. Early summer registration includes payment plans; payment is online by credit card.
Cannot pay by credit card? Contact the league administrators about alternative payment options.
Spare players
Cannot commit to a full season?
Every active KCOHL player is on the Extra Shift spares list, so you can fill in when another team is short and play when it works for you.
- Team reps send invites when they are short, usually one to two days before a game.
- Registered spares are invited first and get about a thirty minute head start.
- Choose text, email or both, set your preferred positions, and add blackout dates for when you are away.
- Invites rotate fairly, so everyone gets a chance at extra games over the season.
