We want to clarify a few points around game management to ensure consistency and keep our schedule running smoothly.
Game Timing Guidelines
Moving forward, each game will follow this structure:
-
-
Puck drop 5 minutes after the scheduled start time
-
-
2 minute break between periods
Sticking to this format is critical so later games do not start late or require shortened periods.
As everyone knows, hockey can be unpredictable. Injuries or other delays can impact timing, and that is simply part of the game. Game management is under the direction of the referees. Officials may adjust the game clock at their discretion at any point to ensure the game concludes within the allotted time. While this will most likely occur in the third period, adjustments may be made earlier. This includes allowing a few minutes at the end for handshakes and preparation for ice cleaning.
If we stay on schedule, and given the fact that we have continuous ice each Sunday, there may occasionally be an opportunity to get on the ice slightly earlier once the Zamboni clears. Please pay attention to rink staff instructions in those cases. They do a great job turning the ice over quickly, and working together will help everything run smoothly.
Respect for Officials and Players
We also want to reinforce expectations around conduct.
Our officials are there to manage the game, keep things under control, and ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience. There is zero tolerance for abuse toward officials or other players.
Referees have full authority to issue a game misconduct and eject a player if necessary. Any player ejected must leave the ice immediately and they are not permitted to return to the bench. Moving forward, all ejections will be reported to the league. The league will review the incident and determine whether further discipline is required, including suspension or expulsion if warranted.
The KCOHL is built around fairness, competitiveness, and fun. We encourage strong and competitive play, but behavior must remain respectful and controlled at all times.
These reminders are being shared for clarity as we continue working closely with officials and the league to ensure everyone is on the same page. We are also in the process of formalizing a rule book ahead of next season so there is no confusion or question as to how games and the league operate.
If you have any questions about rules or league operations, please reach out to [email protected]. That email goes directly to the full board. We want concerns to be heard and we want everyone to continue enjoying their time in the league.
Thanks everyone, and we look forward to the rest of the season!

Have Your Say
We have added a feedback form that will now live at the bottom of every newsletter. If you have questions, concerns, ideas, or thoughtful complaints about the league, this is the place to send them. Anonymous is fine. Constructive is appreciated. We read them all.
